PLUS ULTRA Partners with Patterson Dental https://www.dentistrytoday.com/plus-ultra-partners-with-patterson-dental/ Fri, 29 Apr 2022 14:26:24 +0000 https://www.dentistrytoday.com/?p=96236 PLUS ULTRA, the first sustainable, inclusive, and eco-conscious line of biodegradable bamboo toothbrushes and oral care products is partnering with Patterson Dental, the largest distribution company providing dental products to private practices in the United States.

Over 50 million pounds of plastic toothbrush waste ends up in a landfill every year. Dentists hand out plastic toothbrushes daily to their patients and perpetuate the cycle of plastic being distributed and thrown away in oral care. PLUS ULTRA and its new partnership aim to change that statistic starting with the leading educators; dentists.

plus ultra

“The challenge is, Dentists haven’t been given proper access to better solutions like bamboo toothbrushes and recyclable aluminum tube toothpaste. We’re breaking the cycle and are so excited to get the word out to dentists all over the country that can now easily order our products through our partnership with Patterson Dental,” says PLUS ULTRA Founder Christina Ramirez.

Patterson Dental’s network of over a hundred thousand independently owned dental offices and those dentists will now have the ability to be part of the solution and offer their patients a more eco-conscious option. The mindset in this vertical is shifting and dentists will be the change makers on the right side, advocating for the environment.

“We’re excited to partner with PLUS ULTRA and grow our product offering, especially given their innovative approach to sustainability and environmentally-friendly product solutions. We are very pleased to be a distributor of these products in the dental space and provide even greater options for our customers to bring to their practices,” said Taylor Callais, Category Manager of Preventative and Diagnostic for Patterson Dental. “Our dentists trust the expertise of Patterson Dental to provide the highest quality products and services.”

The full PLUS ULTRA for Patterson Dental offering includes the Bamboo Toothbrush, Natural Gel Toothpaste, Biodegradable Cornstarch Replacement Head, and Floss (Launching June 2022).

About PLUS ULTRA

PLUS ULTRA was created because the industry needed a sustainable pioneer and founder Christina Ramirez was tired of seeing the same smile everywhere.

That perfect pearly white grin didn’t represent the smiles in every day — in real life. The oral care industry was centered on aspiration, not inclusion, perfection instead of quirks, originality, or flaws. In 2012, she created a new kind of oral care brand.

One that cultivates a community and culture of inclusion with a focus on sustainability because our smiles are as unique as we are.

PLUS ULTRA only uses elevated, clean and high-quality non-toxic ingredients for its products, 100% natural, biodegradable and compostable bamboo materials and recyclable aluminum tubes. Most important, PLUS ULTRA is keeping the planet, landfills & oceans clean. 100% natural, biodegradable & compostable bamboo materials.

The PLUS ULTRA line has over eight products and is growing to bring a full oral care line centered on inclusivity to the masses. LivePLUSULTRA.com

Dental Volunteers Treat 2,000 at AZ MOM Event https://www.dentistrytoday.com/dental-volunteers-treat-2-000-at-az-mom-event/ Wed, 22 Jan 2020 17:27:10 +0000 https://www.dentistrytoday.com/?p=58873

Approximately 200 dentists and 1,300 assistants, hygienists, and dental students volunteered to provide free dental treatment to about 2,000 patients during the annual AZ MOM program at the Arizona State Fairgrounds on December 13 and 14, 2019. Treatments included cleanings, fillings, extractions, restorations, and endodontics.

Dentsply Sirona and Patterson Dental supported the program by setting up five treatment stations for CEREC single-visit dentistry, which allowed 16 volunteer doctors to work with local registered dental assistants and third- and fourth-year dental students to process 125 crowns in two days.

“We partner with Dentsply Sirona each year to bring in two to three panoramic x-ray units that my service team sets up and uses for imaging,” said Jay Connors, general manager of Patterson Dental, who has been involved with AZ MOM for seven years.

“In addition, Paterson Dental is a CEREC training center and, in 2015, we added CEREC crowns to the AZ MOM event by installing four full CEREC stations,” said Connors, who also is a member of the Central Arizona Dental Society Foundation advisory board.

“We added a fifth full unit this year, which allowed our volunteer CEREC dentists to complete more than a hundred CEREC restorations in two days! An amazing feat, thanks to Dentsply Sirona’s support and to all incredible volunteers,” said Connors.

The program means more than providing free treatments to Connors and his team, though.

“The dental care our volunteers provide not only solves patients’ dental issues, but more importantly, helps them to regain their confidence and empowers them to smile again,” said Connors.

“When you are not in pain or embarrassed to smile, life is better. We are grateful to support this wonderful event where people’s lives are literally changed for the better,” Connors said.

America’s ToothFairy Awards $5,000 Grant to Mobile Care Chicago https://www.dentistrytoday.com/america-s-toothfairy-awards-5-000-grant-to-mobile-care-chicago/ Tue, 02 Apr 2019 16:42:15 +0000 https://www.dentistrytoday.com/?p=56096

As part of its annual Celebration of Smiles event during the Chicago Dental Society’s MidWinter Meeting last month, America’s ToothFairy honored Mobile Care Chicago with a $5,000 grant to support its services for underserved children in the Chicago area. The contribution will provide resources for the dental clinic’s mobile program, which served more than 7,500 children last year.

Through the National Mobile Care Initiative, sponsored by Patterson Dental, America’s ToothFairy clinical partners overcome barriers to care by providing dental services in mobile units, schools and childcare facilities, community centers, and other familiar settings to bring dental services to underserved children who live in urban and rural Dental Healthcare Professional Shortage Areas who have limited transportation options.

“Many of the families we serve work multiple jobs or have multiple children to care for. Taking time off of work or away from other caregiving responsibilities to travel across or into the city and waiting for an appointment is particularly difficult for these families,” said Matt Siemer, executive director of Mobile Care Chicago.

“The generosity of America’s ToothFairy enabled Mobile Care to not only maintain care in the deeply underserved southern suburbs of Chicago but to add over 140 new patients last year. We are so grateful for this grant, as it will help us treat even more children in the coming year,” said Siemer.

“Thanks to support from Patterson Dental, our National Mobile Care Initiative provided critical resources and support to 42 mobile dental clinics serving 152,641 children last year,” said Jill Malmgren, executive director of America’s ToothFairy. “We are so pleased to provide these additional resources to Mobile Care Chicago as they provide high-quality services to underserved children in and around Chicago.”

“Patterson Dental has been proud to partner with America’s ToothFairy for many years,” said Tim Rogan, senior vice president and general manager of Patterson Dental. “And we are especially pleased to act as title sponsor of this important initiative to help provide exceptional care and essential preventive services to children who might otherwise have to go without.”

Patterson Donates $1.8 Million to Build New UBC Dental Clinic https://www.dentistrytoday.com/patterson-donates-1-8-million-to-build-new-ubc-dental-clinic/ Fri, 19 Oct 2018 08:26:51 +0000 https://www.dentistrytoday.com/?p=54667

Dentists and dental students will be able to study and practice advanced techniques together at a state-of-the-art dental clinic at the University of British Columbia (UBC) Faculty of Dentistry’s Vancouver campus thanks to a $1.8 million donation from Patterson Dental.

“The vision to create a modern, dynamic, and interactive learning center for the dental community and students at UBC was a natural fit,” said Joe Ludwig, general manager of Patterson Dental. “We are very proud to partner with UBC Dentistry in the opening of the Patterson Dental Learning Centre.”

British Columbia’s study clubs will be the primary users of the facility, facilitating continuing education and professional development for licensed dentists by bringing them together to study new techniques as required. This spring, clubs also will begin to welcome UBC dentistry students so they can learn alongside master clinicians.

“Through this generous donation, Patterson Dental has provided our students with a platform that hasn’t been available to students in any other dental school,” said Mary MacDougall, dean of the Faculty of Dentistry.

“As our students become embedded in the study clubs, the clubs will infuse in them a commitment to lifelong learning through active mentorship. The quality of education that our students receive through this exposure will help them become more confident, capable entry-level clinicians as they graduate from the UBC Faculty of Dentistry,” MacDougall said.

Patients who have limited access to dental care can visit the clinic for treatment through the study clubs. The open clinic area has 11 chairs and an adjacent lecture room pavilion. One chair is equipped with a webcam and microphone for transmitting live video of procedures to the lecture room pavilion.

The facility was completed in September, and study clubs already have begun using it. An average of three clubs per week are expected during the academic year.

Fuse: Practice Management for an Evolving Industry https://www.dentistrytoday.com/fuse-practice-management-for-an-evolving-industry/ Fri, 27 Jul 2018 08:44:27 +0000 https://www.dentistrytoday.com/?p=53941

SPONSORED EDITORIAL

With Fuse, Patterson Dental’s goal was to create a different kind of practice management solution that could meet the changing needs of an evolving industry.

To do that, Patterson first needed to understand what those needs were. Patterson sent out a dedicated team that asked hundreds of dental professionals what they needed and listened intently. Then, it built Fuse, taking advantage of the efficiency and convenience of the cloud while keeping in mind everything it learned about what dental teams wanted from their software.

The resulting product has four key features—referred to as the Core Four—that make it truly different for dental practices of all sizes.

Totally Connected

Having all practice and patient data in one place makes smart business possible, particularly for practices with multiple locations. The cloud adds value by centralizing scheduling functions, patient information, and practice data and by allowing access to that data from anywhere and in real time.

With Fuse, in a single glance, users can see everything that’s happening in any location at any given moment. Many multi-location practices are still operating different practice management software at their different locations. This handcuffs the practice by keeping its locations in software silos that prevent apples-to-apples comparison of data and doesn’t allow staff members the flexibility to easily float between practice locations.

“If I’m a restaurant owner and I have one menu at one location and another menu at a second location, I can’t compare insights,” said Mary Beth Swift, who managed dental practices of all types and sizes for nearly two decades before joining the Fuse team. “Operationally, the same is true for dental practices. You need to have all your locations operating on the same data set to draw conclusions.”

Intuitive Interface

Designed with an easy-to-learn, familiar interface, Fuse makes users feel at home while boosting productivity. From historical information and billing to imaging and beyond, the Clinical Timeline functionality in Fuse makes it easier than ever to get the complete picture on every patient.

“When we look at this overview page, it tells the patient’s story,” said Fuse national technology advisor Daniel Easty. “This is the spot where all of the patient’s clinical evidence is housed. I don’t need to check three or four different places to gather information. I can grab it immediately and get a full understanding of this person’s history.”

That’s no exaggeration. Fuse allows users to view everything from patient conditions to clinical notes, treatment plans, forms, documents, perio exams, images, and more. Plus, it’s updated in real time, creating a better experience for the dental team and patients.

Work Smarter

Users find Patterson’s innovative Smart Screens throughout Fuse. With Smart Screens, users can view, filter, and act on real-time patient information and practice data on a single screen, in a way that’s never been possible before.

“The Smart Screens are really an incredible tool. You’ve got a snapshot that gives you a high-level look at the most important numbers in your practice—everything from receivables, production numbers, insurance claim status, hygiene retention, and much more,” Easty said. “Then, you’re able to take immediate action on that same screen, whether it’s reminding a patient of prescribed treatment, or adding a new insurance plan to a patient profile.”

Furthermore, Fuse allows users to access all reporting, scheduling, and patient data from each individual location using a simple toggle function.

Uncommon Support

Fuse delivers training and support to maximize the software’s impact on the practice—in person, online, or over the phone. A responsive team of experts is always available to help exactly how users need it.

Another exciting way Fuse offers users support is through the self-guided journey provided by the integrated WalkMe tool. Easty and other members of the Fuse team heard from dental professionals about the difficulty of consistently training new team members on practice management software.

“One of the biggest concerns I hear about onboarding is that you’ve got team members doing things differently, so they struggle to help one another, and there’s just no continuity,” Easty said. “The WalkMe tool helps train everyone the same way, and then reinforces that same training every time an onboarded employee uses the tool for quick help.”

Flexible eService Add-ons

No two practices are the same, so there’s no such thing as a one-size-fits-all practice management solution. Patterson designed Fuse as part of a larger practice management software offering that can adapt to meet each practice’s unique needs. Including a traditional on-premise practice management software solution, the offering is customizable for each team.

The flexibility users find in Patterson’s additional software offerings amplify the value of their core software, whatever it may be. With tools that assist in practice marketing, patient communications, patient education, and a comprehensive business suite, Patterson customers have software choices that benefit their business everywhere.

Patterson remains dedicated to enabling ongoing integration with new software and new technology from outside vendors, too. With Patterson as a partner, a practice is fully empowered to stay on the cutting edge of innovation.
